Overview
Architecture studio Debaixo do Bloco developed an interior installation designed to evoke the landscape, architecture, and atmosphere of Brasília. This installation is situated within Oscar Niemeyer's Bienal Pavilion, located in Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo. The project, led by Debaixo do Bloco Arquitetura founder Clay Rodrigues, aims to distill the characteristics of Brasília into a domestic-scale presentation.
Approach
The installation within the modernist Bienal Pavilion comprised specific architectural elements. These elements included a series of pilotis, curved surfaces, and continuous planes. The selection and arrangement of these components were intended to convey the essence of Brasília's environmental and structural qualities.
The studio's method involved translating the distinct features of Brasília—its landscape, architectural style, and general ambiance—into a form suitable for an interior setting. By employing a domestic scale, the project sought to offer a particular experience of these larger themes.
Findings
The installation created by Debaixo do Bloco successfully presented a distilled representation of Brasília. The exhibit's composition, incorporating pilotis, curved surfaces, and continuous planes, aimed to capture and convey the architectural and atmospheric qualities of the city.
"Experience of Brasília" evoked at interior installation in Niemeyer's São Paulo pavilion.
This evocation was achieved through specific design choices within the context of Oscar Niemeyer's Bienal Pavilion.
Why This Matters
This architectural installation demonstrates a method for translating broader urban and architectural concepts into smaller, interior-focused exhibits. It suggests an approach to representing complex built environments through selected formal elements and specific spatial arrangements.
