Overview
This document details the creative process undertaken to design the 'dirty, organic, insectoid logo' for Marvel Cosmic Invasion. The design brief necessitated a visual identity that conveyed specific thematic elements.
Approach
The design journey began with an initial round of hand-drawn sketches. These early concepts explored a range of 'insectoid'-inspired forms. The process involved sketching multiple ideas to generate a foundational set of visual directions. Following the initial drawing phase, selected concepts were transitioned into digital formats.
The digital transformation involved the use of various software tools. Adobe Illustrator was employed for vectorization and creating crisp lines for the logo's structure. Subsequently, the vectorized elements were imported into Adobe Photoshop. In Photoshop, textural modifications were applied, moving away from a clean, geometric aesthetic towards a more 'dirty' and 'organic' appearance. This included using specific brushes and layering techniques to introduce irregularities and a sense of decay or natural wear.
A key aspect of the digital manipulation involved careful consideration of color palettes and lighting effects within Photoshop. The designer worked to ensure that the chosen colors and effects enhanced the logo's 'insectoid' and 'organic' qualities, contributing to the overall thematic impression.
Findings
The design method produced a logo characterized by its 'dirty, organic, insectoid' aesthetic. This was achieved through a multi-stage process:
- Initial ideation relied on hand-drawn sketches to explore 'insectoid' themes.
- Vectorization of chosen sketches was performed in Adobe Illustrator.
- Textural enhancements and a 'dirty, organic' finish were applied in Adobe Photoshop using specific brushes and blending modes.
- The final visual outcome successfully integrated these elements into a cohesive logo for Marvel Cosmic Invasion.
