Overview
A scientific project, initiated by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in direct collaboration with local fishermen, conducted an assessment of fishery resources and ecological quality within the Garraf and Plana de Foix Marine Area. The project focused on evaluating the biological and health status of fishery species.
Approach
The research involved direct collaboration with fishermen in the Garraf region. This collaborative model facilitated the evaluation process. The study's methodology focused on assessing the biological condition, health status, and contaminant levels in the fishery species sampled from the Garraf and Plana de Foix Marine Area.
Findings
- Fishery species in the Garraf and Plana de Foix Marine Area were observed to be in good biological condition.
- The health condition of these species was also reported as good.
- Analysis indicated low levels of contaminants present in the fishery species.
- Overall, the fishery species in the studied area were found to be in a healthy state.
Why This Matters
The findings from this assessment directly contributed to the development of a Strategic Plan for Sustainable Fisheries. This plan was created based on the evaluated state of fishery resources and ecological quality in the Garraf and Plana de Foix Marine Area.
